We are heading into the land of uncharted mountains and dizzying heights! Our journey includes a visit to Montenegro’s Niagara Falls, panoramic viewpoints overlooking Albania, and incredible stops showcasing the Balkans' Alpine beauty. From an altitude of 1,000 meters, we’ll marvel at the Cijevna River Canyon and take a scenic walking to Grlo Sokolovo. Spectacular views are guaranteed!
This private trip takes you to hidden gems around Podgorica, the Cijevna River Canyon, and the Prokletije mountain range—places yet undiscovered by most travelers. And of course, we will admire the grandeur of the Balkans Alps!
It’s a must-see experience! Explore the most untouched mountains in Europe and witness one of Montenegro’s most breathtaking alpine landscapes. The photos alone will be worth the trip! Large tour buses cannot access these remote areas—this adventure is only possible on a private excursion. Here, away from the crowds, we can fully immerse ourselves in the raw beauty of the Balkans' highlands in peace and tranquility.
Leaving behind the coastline of the Montenegrin Adriatic, we will journey deep into the heart of the country. As we approach Montenegro’s capital, Podgorica, we will witness the awe-inspiring mountain range of Prokletije, towering at an impressive 2,694 meters. Often referred to as the "Balkan Alps" due to its striking resemblance to the Alpine landscape, this rugged region holds a mystique unlike any other.
The name Prokletije—which translates to "Accursed Mountains"—was not given by chance. In ancient times, this formidable mountain range was nearly impassable, with very few trails cutting through its vast wilderness. Dramatic elevation changes, sheer cliffs rising hundreds of meters, and an endless chain of jagged peaks made traversing these lands a nearly impossible feat.
Even today, Prokletije remains one of the most unexplored and untamed mountain regions in all of Europe, guarding its wild beauty in silent, majestic grandeur.
After passing the rolling hills of the fishing village of Vranina and the vast shores of Skadar Lake, we will stop in the Cijevna River Valley to admire the man-made Niagara Falls. Created 150 years ago to power water mills, this waterfall has since been harmoniously shaped by nature. The river, overcoming obstacles, continues to sculpt the canyon’s contours and refine its rocky patterns. After enjoying this remarkable place, we can savor a delicious coffee or breakfast at a national restaurant bearing the same name, set in a picturesque spot right by the Montenegrin Niagara Falls.
Driving along a scenic high-mountain road near the Albanian border, we will arrive at the small mountain village of Delaj. The majority of the population here are Albanian Catholics, as evidenced by the impressive statue of Jesus Christ standing right above the canyon of the Cijevna River. Tourists often call this place the "Montenegrin Rio de Janeiro."
Next to the statue, several viewing platforms offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Cijevna River canyon and the surrounding mountain ranges from an altitude of 700 meters. After admiring these spectacular landscapes and capturing beautiful photos, we will continue our journey to a place with equally enchanting views—Grlo Sokolovo!
Breathing in the invigorating mountain air, we will take a short walk to a place called Grlo Sokolovo, which translates as Falcon’s Throat. This site was once home to a Yugoslav military base with an observation post overlooking the Albanian border.
Today, Grlo Sokolovo is open to visitors, and the breathtaking views from its scenic platforms are beyond words! No photograph can truly capture their magnificence—you have to see it with your own eyes!
From an altitude of 1,420 meters, we will gaze upon the legendary Balkan Alps—the Prokletije mountain range, the most unexplored mountains on the European continent!
