We will take a stroll through the old town, visit the waterfront of the Trebišnjica River, and admire the ancient stone bridges from the Ottoman Empire. We will enjoy a cup of traditional Bosnian coffee at the oldest café in the Balkans, nestled in the shade of majestic plane trees on the city's central square.
Next, we will ascend to the Gračanica Monastery, where a viewing platform on Mount Crkvina offers breathtaking panoramas of Trebinje! A significant figure in the city's history was the poet Jovan Dučić. We will share stories of his deep love for his homeland and his invaluable contribution to Trebinje's development.
In his honor, a monument was erected, a park and a street were named after him, and even his portrait appears on a banknote.
Next, we will visit the city of Mostar—one of the most charming cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stretching along the banks of the Neretva River.
Mostar is a multi-confessional city, a meeting point of vastly different cultures, traditions, and architectural styles.
Here, Muslims, Catholics, and Orthodox Christians live side by side, with church bells and the calls of muezzins echoing through the streets at the same time.
The Eastern charm and the architecture of ancient mosques transport visitors back in time to the era of the Ottoman Empire.
The key landmark of the city is undoubtedly the Old Bridge, built in 1566 by the design of the Turkish architect Mimar Hayruddin. This is where Eastern and Western cultures truly meet. Mostar was also the site of one of the pivotal events in world history: on June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated here, an event that triggered the start of World War I. Although Mostar’s history is complex, filled with many fascinating and even tragic moments, today the city captivates with its unique atmosphere, where Eastern traditions intertwine with Western influences, and its ancient streets tell the story of centuries past.
A visit to the fairytale-like city of Mostar will leave an unforgettable impression!
