An excursion from Montenegro to Croatia will allow you to admire the largest Venetian fortress city on the Adriatic coast and feel like a hero of the historical blockbuster Game of Thrones! We will also visit the picturesque seaside town of Cavtat.
Croatia, like Bosnia and Albania, shares a border with Montenegro, so why not take advantage of this wonderful geographic fact and embark on an unforgettable journey to this country? Dubrovnik itself is Croatia’s architectural treasure—an open-air museum that undoubtedly belongs on the list of the Balkans' wonders!
And the Adriatic Sea here has a completely different azure-blue hue, distinct from the sea in Montenegro, and we will have the chance to witness this for ourselves on our excursion to Croatia!
At the very start of our journey, upon entering Croatia, we will visit the charming fairytale town of Cavtat. After that, we will make a stop at a scenic viewpoint above the Adriatic, offering the best panoramic view of the pearl of southern Dalmatia—Dubrovnik!
Just a little further, and we will find ourselves in the heart of a city with a centuries-old history, a city that has witnessed many fascinating and sometimes difficult times, yet has withstood the trials of different eras with dignity, proving that time holds no power over it!
We are arriving in Dubrovnik!
Passing through the main gates of Dubrovnik, the first thing we will see is the city citadel, standing 25 meters tall and stretching an impressive 2.5 kilometers. During our excursion to Croatia, we will uncover many fascinating facts about Dubrovnik’s most significant medieval architectural landmarks, including the fortresses of Lovrijenac and St. John, the Minčeta Tower, and the Bokar Fortress.
After admiring the stunning views of the old town’s citadel, we will set off to explore Dubrovnik, beginning with a stroll along Stradun, the central street of the old city.
It’s hard to believe, but there isn’t a single modern building in sight—old Dubrovnik is truly a living museum of medieval architecture!
But even today, behind the mighty fortress walls of the old town, people still live, blending their modern daily lives with the medieval setting, creating the illusion that we have traveled back in time to the era of Venetian rule!
We will be sure to walk down the famous Jesuit Staircase, which served as a filming location for the play Romeo and Juliet and later appeared in Game of Thrones.
It’s no coincidence that Game of Thrones was filmed in Dubrovnik—we will follow in the footsteps of this legendary series and see firsthand the medieval stone scenery and immersive atmosphere.
During our tour of Dubrovnik, we will also visit the stunning Sponza Palace, built in the Gothic style.
We will also admire the Rector’s Palace, which, throughout history, has withstood fires and earthquakes, each time being restored with new architectural elements.
We will visit Luža Square, home to numerous fascinating landmarks from different eras, including the Bell Loggia, Roland’s Column, and the Church of St. Blaise. However, the true gem of Luža Square is undoubtedly the Onofrio Fountain—an iconic masterpiece of 15th-century Venetian style.
As part of our tour in Croatia, we will also have the chance to visit the historic temples and churches of the old town, including the Dominican Monastery, the Church of St. Basil, the Franciscan Monastery, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Synagogue, and the Church of St. Ignatius.
