Our journey begins with the jewel of the Bay of Kotor – the town of Kotor!
This fortified town, founded in 476 AD, has been astonishingly well-preserved through the centuries. The Old Town of Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, fully protected as a cultural treasure. To call Kotor unique would be an understatement—it is not just an old fortress or ruins of a historic city. It is a living, breathing town where echoes of Roman, Byzantine, and Venetian history intertwine with modern life, creating an atmosphere of medieval charm and Venetian grandeur. During the Heart of Montenegro Tour, we will visit Perast, explore the man-made island of Our Lady of the Rocks, and see the former capital of Montenegro – Cetinje.
We will immerse ourselves in true Montenegrin traditions, discover the art of preparing the country’s most famous delicacy, prosciutto, in the mountain village of Njeguši, drive along the legendary Royal Road—one of the most breathtaking mountain routes in the world—admire stunning landscapes, and capture spectacular photos from an altitude of over 1,000 meters above the Bay of Kotor!
is a deep dive into the country's captivating history, resembling an epic novel, as well as a celebration of its unique culture. It is a journey through breathtaking scenery, fascinating stories, and unforgettable impressions!
Because this tour is not physically demanding, and the distances between attractions are short, yet it offers a diverse and complete experience of Montenegro in just one day!
We will explore both the mountainous part of the country, home to the historic capital Cetinje and the ancestral village of the Njeguš dynasty, as well as Montenegro’s most iconic coastal gem – the Bay of Kotor. Without a doubt, the Bay of Kotor is a "must-see" destination when visiting Montenegro.
Passing through the grand city gates, we step into a Venetian fairytale from the time of Emperor Justinian. Here, narrow winding alleys open onto charming piazzas, where modern boutiques seamlessly blend into ancient architecture. The towering mountains, forming a natural extension of the fortress walls, complete the scene of grandeur and beauty.
During our walking tour of Kotor, we will photograph the facades of the noble palaces of the richest Venetian families—Bizanti, Pima, and Beskuća, visit the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, and see Montenegro’s oldest church – St. Luke’s Church.
In Perast, you will stand on the official Square of Cats and walk down the narrowest street in the world—just 50 cm wide, fittingly named "Excuse Me Street."
As we leave Kotor, we will drive along the scenic shores of the Bay of Kotor, where the elegant architecture of charming coastal towns meets the breathtaking natural beauty of the Dinaric Alps and the Adriatic Sea, harmonizing in perfect unison.
Then, we arrive in the storybook town of Perast—a place where Venetian melodies are forever etched in the ornate baroque stone palaces, every single facade facing the Adriatic Sea!
From Perast, we will take a short boat trip to visit the most significant islands in the Bay of Kotor. After admiring St. George Island from the sea, we will land on the second island – Our Lady of the Rocks.
According to legend, this man-made island was built on the wreckage of pirate ships. For two centuries, locals sank old vessels here, including captured pirate ships, and a law was established requiring every passing boat to drop a stone at this location. Over time, a 3030 m² platform emerged, upon which the extraordinary church now stands, offering unparalleled views of the Bay of Kotor!
Next, we will drive along the Royal Road—one of the most scenic mountain routes in the world! We will hear the romantic legend of unfulfilled love, immortalized in the serpentine curves of this breathtaking road. We will take in breathtaking panoramic views of the Bay of Kotor, stopping for stunning photographs. Ascending high above the Bay of Kotor, we will visit the ancestral village of the Njeguš dynasty, where we will sample Montenegro’s famous prosciutto and learn the secrets of its traditional preparation.
Finally, we will arrive in Cetinje—Montenegro’s cultural capital, a true open-air museum!
